Presentation
Length from approximately 900 Mr. We can walk on his towpath while going along the avenue of the Port, one of the most beautiful alleys of plane trees of France, deploying a vault made up of 179 trees planted in the 19th century.
This channel recovers water of Echudes, then that of Chalaronne.
In 1758, to facilitate the trade, the intendant of Dombes, Claude Cachet de Montézan, dug a channel since the walls of the city to the port.
At the site of the small public garden at its east's end, was formerly installed a landing stage for the goods hauled from the Saône.
At the confluence of Chalaronne and channel, a broad hollow was used, according to the archives, for regulation by strong rains. It is there especially that the largest boats discharged their goods. This place is called “the Hollow of Morelle”, from the name of the nun which drowned there to have, said the legend, sinned in the flesh.
